Day 236 - John 10
Taken from A Guided Tour of the Bible
The vocabulary and grammatical structure of the Gospel of John is simpler than the other gospels, but this gospel is more subtle and layered, and it is full of nuances and parallelism. While the synoptics all contain Jesus’ parables, John uses allegories instead (e.g., the good shepherd in John 10 and the true vine in John 15).
In His allegory of the good shepherd, Jesus presents Himself as the gate by which the sheep may enter, the shepherd who is concerned for His flock and protects them, the one who knows His sheep and whose sheep know Him, and the lover of the flock who lays down His life for them. The Father is in Him, and He is in the Father, and the Father has sent Him into the world to purchase eternal life for the sheep His Father has given to Him.
READING of JOHN 10
Prayer:
Lord, You are my shepherd, and I belong to Your flock. I look to You for all my needs, knowing that it is You who guide me, feed me, protect me, and give me the gift of eternal and abundant life.
